The container locking cam is one of the key fittings of the locking bar mounted on a shipping container door. The locking bar carries a cam that moves between a first position, where the cam engages the cam keeper, and a second position, where the cam is released from the keeper and can clear the end frame of the container.
The locking cam and cam keeper play an important role in the container locking system. Damage to either can cause major losses of shipped goods, so their quality requirements are high. Both the cam and the keeper can be produced by forging or casting, but forging is always the preferred manufacturing method: forged cams and keepers achieve a quality that no other metal-forming process can match.
